Office of Housing

Through its Office of Housing, New Jersey’s Department of Human Services tries to help consumers find the type of housing best suited for their needs, such as accessibility, supportive services, transitional housing. The Office does not actually operate or provide housing. Rather, the Office contracts with housing providers who, for instance, can offer services for a group home setting, with treatment or supportive services. DHS also has referral services for finding accessible housing, usually through the NJ Housing Resource Center, which is a joint venture between DHS’ Division of Disability Services and the NJ Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency under (but not part of) the NJ Department of Community Affairs.
