World renown business strategist Michael E. Porter of Harvard Business School presents to an audience at the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard University’s Kennedy School. His topic is how to reform the health care system to improve results for patients. It is “not a soundbite”, but a detailed look at a challenging subject. The key is not cost containment. It is reorganizing the delivery system to a more integrated one center on the patient and providing and paying for care over the full care cycle. The lessons Porter offers for general health care are applicable to mental health care delivery, where the value dialogue is just beginning, but where (thanks to the concept of behavioral health homes) the concept could be more rapidly implemented.
